Hello, I'm Abaliene McKeag. Since I was a kid, I've enjoyed movement. I grew up in the hills of Southern Humboldt exploring the creeks and countryside, building tree forts and running amok with my brothers. In school, I played softball, basketball and volleyball. I also took an interest in dance and cheerleading for a few years. Yoga captivated my interest as a young woman, until my knees began to cry out in discomfort.
After giving birth to my son, my body image changed. Not only did I have an intense 48 hours of labor, but like all women I had to love my body for all of the excess that was needed to nourish the amazing new life that was brought forth. As my little bundle of joy grew, so did his activity. He rarely sat still, and just like his father and me, he took to running in the hills of our beautiful countryside. He soon became involved in sports - soccer, basketball, baseball, hiking and BMX - all the while keeping me on my toes running right along with him. After a long car ride up the Pacific Coast to Washington, I developed sciatic pain - no one should be sitting for over 8 hrs a day! This forced me to, once again, look at the scoliosis I was diagnosed with as a teenager which shifted my weight to bearing 2/3 of it on my left side, the side with sciatica pain.
Was old age starting to set in? Was this the start of a downward spiral? Aging, surgeries and medications looked like a bleak reality that I wasn't interested in pursuing. With a passion to investigate alternative health, I set to work to figure out a holistic way to remedy my pain and address diet and lifestyle choices.
That's when I found the CHEK Institute, a scientifically grounded and clinically tested system of integrated fitness and wellness. From there, my hunger for knowledge grew to incorporate other modalities to better understand the human body. Taking a course to become a Pregnancy & Postpartum Exercise Specialist has provided insight to the complications I experienced while in labor, giving me the opportunity to help other women with the life-changing event of childbirth. The courses taken with Coaching the Body have allowed me to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation process.
This journey led me to open my own business in 2019, Align - Integrative Spinal Care, to help people with their health concerns. I hope you'll join me to rebuild your health.
